Seit 1981 treiben Sie bereits ihr Unwesen in der Metal-Szene und bereichern die Szene, bekannt geworden durch ihre mythischen und epischen Songs und den auf Piano basierten Songstrukturen. Im Jahr 2011 fing die Band an ihre alten Alben wieder-zu-veröffentlichen. Von der jedoch schon lange
angekündigten DVD, die den Werdegang der Band aufzeigen soll haben wir bis Weilen noch nichts gehört.

Das letzte Studioalbum `The Black Light Bacchanalia´ liegt nunmehr schon 5 Jahre zurück, aber wie man weiss blieb David DeFeis natürlich nicht untätig.

Was soll ich sagen - Neulich noch in der "Küche" und am "Penne Of The Fearless" brutzeln (Brutally Delicious Folge 89) und jetzt schon auf dem neuen VIRGIN STEELE Album zu hören. Nach einer gefühlten Ewigkeit beglücken uns VS Mastermind David DeFeis und seine Mannen diesen Monat also mit dem neusten Streich namens `Nocturnes Of Hellfire & Damnation`.

Die kompositorisch durchaus guten Ansätze, die sogar teilweise Erinnerungen an die früheren Glanzeiten von VIRGIN STEELE wecken, werden durch die eigentümliche Produktion vielfach zunichte gemacht.


David DeFeis Gesang und Tasteninstrumente stehen sehr weit im Vordergrund, dadurch geht der Punch der Band irgendwie verloren. DeFeis kann durchaus noch gut singen, allerdings ist die Stimme durch viele Effekte irgendwie verfremdet und seine genutzten Jaus & Screams passen leider nicht immer gut zur Musik. Früher hingegen war dies ein stimmiges Konzept.

Fazit: Langsamere Songs als gewohnt. Stimmlich hat David es nach wie vor drauf, auch wenn die Effekte ihn etwas verfremden. Jedoch alles hörbar und mir persönlich gefällt die CD sehr gut! Noble Save Zeiten sind vorbei - aber auch andere große Bands schreiben keine HITS mehr. Man kann ja
schließlich auch nicht immer HITS landen. Und man kann in der heutigen Zeit wo es schon alles gibt das Rad auch nicht mehr neu erfinden. Im Vergleich zu anderen Alben die den Markt erobern brauchen sich VIRGIN STEELE jedoch keinesfalles zu verstecken.

Power Theory Updates  Philadelphia Based Pure Steel Records artists , Power Theory are in the middle stages of the final recordings for their third release entitled "Driven by Fear." The Final recording sessions have begun at Dirty Viking Audio Production Professional Services, with "The Dirty Viking" Carlos Alvarez at the controls.  Carlos has completed his work on two killer new metal albums by Noble Beast and Judicator. Drum tracks  are completed and Rhythm Guitar tracking will be completed by mid month as well. The bands traditional heavy metal style is influenced by Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Accept, and Saxon with a modern twist. Power Theory®

2006-2007:

Power Theory was founded and formed by Bob Ballinger, and the early line-up included Charlie Gallagher on Bass after Bob and Charlie disbanded Night Myst. Even though we generated some local buzz, the early line-up was short lived because not all members understood the vision of being a traditional heavy metal band, not nu-metal.

2007-2008:

In order to strengthen the vision and line up changes were made. Steve Sabo was added on drums, and Dave Santini joined as vocalist. Bob & Dave formed and instant bond in songwriting and began putting material together for the EP "Metal Forever". Charlie Gallagher stepped down as bassist, and Jason Tete joined.

2009-2010:

The EP "Metal Forever" was recorded with Jason Grosse at 1021 Studios in Bristol, PA and independently released. The band played live extensively and started writing & recording material at 1021 Studios for a full length release.With the material completed by September 2010, we hired the legendary Achim Koehler to master the project and independently released "Out of the Ashes, Into the Fire". In the fall,  Steve Sabo was replaced as drummer and Chris "Chachie" Smith filled in temporarily. Although Chris's picture appears on the CD liner notes, Steve Sabo actually recorded drums for the album.

2011: 

Power Theory signed a 2 year deal with Pure Steel Records Germany in February and "Out of the Ashes, Into the Fire" was repackaged an internationally released on April 29th,  2011 at "Keep it True" Festival in Königshofen, Germany. Soon after the release, bassist Jason Tete amicably parted ways with the band for family reasons and was replaced by Jay "Viking Jay" Pekala.Finally in summer a vital missing piece, a true metal drummer, was added in Lorin Savadove. Now with a more dynamic back line the band started recording our follow up album at 1021 Studios again.

2012:

The band gained more extensive live exposure  and expanded our range to neighboring local states and continued recording new material for a sophomore release. We also accepted an invitation from Datis Alee to play Warriors of Metal V Open Air in Ohio on June 29th, 2012. The band and label chose that to be our official release date for "An Axe to Grind" our second full length release  with cover artwork by Eliran Kantor, on Pure Steel Records. We played more national act shows that summer that included label mates Exxplorer , Sleepy Hollow, and Widow, as well as White Wizzard, Icarus Witch, October 31, and Anvil Bitch. In September we opened up for German Metal Icons Accept and Kreator in our home town of Philadelphia to a packed house. Jay Pekala departed the band after the Accept show.

2013:

Recording for a 3rd full length release began in March at Hard Attack Entertaiment Studios with Matt DiFabio (Single Bullet Theory, Pissing Razors) as engineer and producer, and Peter Baltes of Accept lending his hand as Executive Producer, and co-writer of a track to the project. During the initial sessions it was clear a powerful transformation was taking place in the new material and ultimately some changes would be necessary to ensure the beat delivery of the material recorded and live. The band chose to amicably part ways with Dave Santini and search for a new lead vocalist with more range, and a a second guitarist as lead guitar. Nygil Hoch was recruited as lead guitarist and NYC area vocalist Jeff Rose earned the vocalist spot by his preparation and talent.

Long time band friends Paul Orkin (Flesh Engine) and Drew Foster had been generously filling in on bass duties for live shows, but pro bassist and label mate Alan D'Angelo (Livesay, Sleepy Hollow)  completed the new line up. Now revamped and ready to roll the band returned to the main stage for Warriors of Metal Open Air VI  in Ohio to play a killer live set with old and new material and was greatly accepted by the fans. In October 2013 Power Theory embarked on it's first national US tour as main support for Seven Witches and headliner Vicious Rumors on the second leg of the "Metal Masters Tour" and returned home to support Raven in Delaware just after. Matt DiFabio has become an all around mentor to Power Theory and taken us into the Hard Attack Ent. roster as family. Sadly in late November drummer Lorin Savadove had decided to step down indefinitely due to an injury to his right ankle that wasn't healing due to a need to rest and rehab it. Pro Drummer Nick Bunzck has been recruited to fill in for Lorin.

2014:

Early highlights have the band playing shows with national acts, Single Bullet Theory and Byzantine in February, label mates Arctic Flame and Primeval Realm in March, and heading to Chicago April 4th to play Ragnarökkr Metal Apocalypse/Chicago Metal Fest alongside Picture, Grim Reaper, Riot, and Voltax. Completion of recording for our third album "Driven by Fear" with cover artwork by Timo Weurz is approaching with a summer release date on Pure Steel Records planned.
