What genre of music do you consider Soul Sign to be?
Soul Sign:
Hard rock/heavy, melodic rock.
Laura:
What’s the ultimate direction for your band?
Soul Sign:
World tours, festivals and to keep making albums and singles.
Soul Sign:
Most of the music is written by myself (Bjorn), and occasionally as collaborations between myself and Mike (Cancino), as well as past band members and some outside writers. I usually come up with stuff spontaneously, either while playing or whenever (driving or while sleeping). I record it on my phone and will later write arrangements and lyrics. I never force the lyrics. They usually write themselves and miraculously tend to fit the rhythm and melody of the song.
Laura: Why call the band “Soul Sign?”
Soul Sign:
Coming up with a name is not easy. I was for a long time hesitant to using the word "Soul" as it may confuse potential new fans about the genre of music we play. Although in the end the music speaks for itself and I do believe that people will associate a band name with the music/band and not so much the literal "meaning" of it.
Laura:
What should fans expect to experience at a show?
Soul Sign:
All great energetic, melodic songs and top notch musicianship. We like to dress and look like musicians, although without exaggeration. We mix our new music with a few songs from our history such as Yngwie Malmsteen, Dio, Ted Nugent and old Scorpions (with Uli Jon Roth).
Laura:
Typical question here. Who has influenced you the most via music?
Soul Sign:
We all grew up with the 70s and 80s rock music. As individual players I would say Tommy Aldridge, Eddie Van Halen, Yngwie Malmsteen, Billy Sheehan, John Paul Jones, just to name a few. A lot of people are unaware of the extent of Mark's (Boals) vocal abilities and that he is a really good opera singer as well. He is the strongest, most versatile singer I know and have ever worked with. I feel the same about Rob and Mike as well. Just all phenomenal players.
